The Medicine X core conference kicked off yesterday, and today’s events has just begun with a keynote speech from Maryland high school student Jack Andraka. At age 15, Andraka created a novel paper sensor that detects pancreatic, ovarian and lung cancer in five minutes and costs a mere three cents. Andraka’s outstanding talk, titled "On curiosity, open source research, and the new scientist," has just made me cry...  tears of hope - hope that things will change...
