"What will it take to drive consumer health app adoption?"

34 Best Health & Fitness Apps for iPhone & Android Phones (Source)

"A recent survey conducted by Pew Internet and American Life Project demonstrates what we intuitively know: There is a HUGE market for mHealth…we just have to provide the best ways to promote and foster adoption.

David Lee Scher, in his analysis of the Pew survey on mHIMSS at http://ow.ly/f9Uug:

'we need to relinquish the build it and they will come mentality and start conquering these prerequisites:

1. Educating consumers/patients and providers

2. Furnishing efficacy studies (that need not be as complex as drug or device clinical trials)
3. Getting payers on board (including federal and state) to pay for effective technologies
4. Obtaining private investment

In MobiHealthNews’ analysis of the Pew survey at http://ow.ly/fgqNB , Brian Dolan said 'if you examine Pew’s data on overall health app adoption among all mobile phone users — not just smartphone users — you find flat adoption for three years, despite the significant gains in smartphone adoption that occurred between 2010 and 2012.'

These topics and much more will be discussed at next month’s mHealth Summit on Dec. 3-5 in the Washington, DC Area with presentations such as:

- Executives Unplugged: Where's the Disconnect Between mHealth and Mobile Tech?
- The Road Ahead: The Future of Mobile Technologies for Global Health
- What Goes Into Making an Extraordinary mHealth App?
- Bringing Tech Into Provider-Patient Interaction: Connect, Educate & Inform

As Dr. Scher said at the end of his analysis, 'Let’s get going!' What do YOU think is going to trigger consumer health app adoption?" (Source: LinkedIn Groupe HIMSS).
