Welcome to the digital era of biology (and to this modest blog I started in early 2005).

To cure many diseases, like cancer or cystic fibrosis, we will need to target genes (mutations, for ex.), not organs! I am convinced that the future of replacement medicine (organ transplant) is genomics (the science of the human genome). In 10 years we will be replacing (modifying) genes; not organs!

Ce que l'on dit au MIT aux USA sur l'interdiction faite aux citoyens français de faire séquencer leur génome

Vous voulez savoir ce que pensent les Prix Nobel du MIT à Boston USA de l'interdiction française ? Celle qui frappe d'amende et de peine de prison tout citoyen demandant à faire séquencer son génome ... Eh bien ils pensent qu'au même titre que de breveter les gènes du cancer BRCA1 et 2, cela coupe la personne de ses gènes. Et tout ce qui coupe la personne de ses gènes pose des problèmes de déontologie et d'éthique, compte-tenu de de ce que la médecine commence à savoir faire en combinant l'informatique et la science du génome humain et les biotechs et "big pharma" ...

Un nouveau système se met en place, avec ses propres questionnements d'éthique et ses hoquets - voir l'épisode FDA et 23&me ... Bienvenue dans le monde des problèmes d'aujourd'hui ...  

"Nano" de Robin Cook est passionnant, son prochain bouquin sort le mois prochain, il traite de la médecine et des smartphones...
