Scientific MOOCs follower. Author of Airpocalypse, a techno-medical thriller (Out Summer 2017)

Welcome to the digital era of biology (and to this modest blog I started in early 2005).

To cure many diseases, like cancer or cystic fibrosis, we will need to target genes (mutations, for ex.), not organs! I am convinced that the future of replacement medicine (organ transplant) is genomics (the science of the human genome). In 10 years we will be replacing (modifying) genes; not organs!

Anticipating the $100 genome era and the P4™ medicine revolution. P4 Medicine (Predictive, Personalized, Preventive, & Participatory): Catalyzing a Revolution from Reactive to Proactive Medicine.

I am an early adopter of scientific MOOCs. I've earned myself four MIT digital diplomas: 7.00x, 7.28x1, 7.28.x2 and 7QBWx. Instructor of 7.00x: Eric Lander PhD.

Upcoming books: Airpocalypse, a medical thriller (action taking place in Beijing) 2017; Jesus CRISPR Superstar, a sci-fi -- French title: La Passion du CRISPR (2018).

I love Genomics. Would you rather donate your data, or... your vital organs? Imagine all the people sharing their data...

Paying your Doctor with Bitcoins?

You can now pay your tab in some NY bars with Bitcoins, but I wonder when I can pay my GP with Bitcoins?

Interesting chain of value: Credit Cards like Mastercard have at some point disrupted traditional banking - well they no longer do, at least they no longer are full or strident disruptors, they are only relatively disrupting traditional banking. Bitcoins is yet another disruptor...  Credit Card businesses never invested in e-mail as a secure means of payment, since they never believed this would work indeed... Paypal has proven them wrong... Traditional banking is the Emperor, Credit Cards are both Emperor and Barbarian. Bitcoins and Paypal, the ultimate Innovators, are both Barbarians, and they're trying to make an alliance... since Barbarians fighting together against Emperors are stronger... Together "the sustainable Barbarians" might be able to afford bypassing government regulation... People start to be sick of conglomerate industry's interests colluding with the government's own interests ("thanks to" active lobbying)... "The Story of Stuff" Project, carried out by some American sustainability activists, enjoys worldwide success... so might Bitcoins and Paypal...

The Bitcoins saga is thrilling: as a software, it was created by some mysterious mathematician, claiming he was Japanese but believed to be British, who committed digital suicide short after naming his successor (himself? Somebody else?). Successor has nothing to do with success here; responsibility, toiling for no money would be much more accurate... But the saga is to be continued...

I happened to consult an ENT Physician in Paris area, France, the other day... When it came time to pay (our invaluable health comes to a certain price), he proudly said: "I accept credit cards!" (I suspect the vast majority of primary care doctors and specialized physicians don't). I didn't dare ask if I could pay with Paypal Bitcoins ;-)
