Scientific MOOCs follower. Author of Airpocalypse, a techno-medical thriller (Out Summer 2017)

Welcome to the digital era of biology (and to this modest blog I started in early 2005).

To cure many diseases, like cancer or cystic fibrosis, we will need to target genes (mutations, for ex.), not organs! I am convinced that the future of replacement medicine (organ transplant) is genomics (the science of the human genome). In 10 years we will be replacing (modifying) genes; not organs!

Anticipating the $100 genome era and the P4™ medicine revolution. P4 Medicine (Predictive, Personalized, Preventive, & Participatory): Catalyzing a Revolution from Reactive to Proactive Medicine.

I am an early adopter of scientific MOOCs. I've earned myself four MIT digital diplomas: 7.00x, 7.28x1, 7.28.x2 and 7QBWx. Instructor of 7.00x: Eric Lander PhD.

Upcoming books: Airpocalypse, a medical thriller (action taking place in Beijing) 2017; Jesus CRISPR Superstar, a sci-fi -- French title: La Passion du CRISPR (2018).

I love Genomics. Would you rather donate your data, or... your vital organs? Imagine all the people sharing their data...

Heartburn pills taken by millions "can increase risk of cancer and heart disease"

Gastro-esophageal reflux can turn into esophageal cancer... Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) pills won't do the job in terms of making the reflux disappear... Don't ignore the problem...

There is more to learn about the effects of PPIs. For now, take them for as short a time as possible and if you have to have them long term, make sure you are checked regularly.

Ever heard about that non invasive ("endoluminal") surgery procedure to treat "GERD" (Gastro-esophageal reflux disease)?
"Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF) is a surgical procedure performed through the mouth and without incisions; it employs the EsophyX device to create an esophagogastric fundoplication that is up to 270° and 2-3cm in length. A unique form of Natural Orifice Surgery (NOS), TIF represents the next step in the field of minimally invasive surgery and the treatment of GERD."

New Surgery Cures Acid Reflux
I get a lot of e-mails from European patients, asking me where they can have this new surgery. Well, not in Europe, where only very few cases have been performed (Belgium)... But if you are a US-resident (especially if you live in California), you can contact EndoGastric Solutions Medical Director Adrian Lobontiu MD:

TIF or Nissen? Which surgical procedure will it be for you? TIF is the minimally invasive surgical procedure; Nissen is the traditional one (more invasive). Find out who is a candidate for TIF and who is a candidate for Nissen here:
