It means telemedicine. It means that when a company has a sustainable biz plan, like 23&Me did, FDA won't halt the company just because it's innovative. It means interoperability: Google Glass AND IBM Watson (as an app for iPhone & Google phone) AND iBlue Button (with Microsoft Health Vault) AND Human Longevity Inc. AND AliveCor Heart Monitor AND Scanadu (a handheld medical 'tricorder') AND the cloud, etc. It means we need a "Creative Commons" for Medicine, for example, a BRCA Commons. It means proactive medicine. We will see more patients as paper coauthors -- the rise of the empowered patient. It means from the Internet to the Inner-Net. It means patient-centered. In the future, from head to toe, the patient will be wired directly into the cloud.
Antonyms: Reactive Medicine. NOT patient-centered. Closed-door medicine. Entrenched medicine. Doctors having developed the ability to shield themselves (from patients). Disempowered patients.
